When life is full, self-care is the first thing to go. It feels indulgent, or like one more thing on the list. But calming your nervous system is not a luxury. It is what lets you handle everything else without burning out. And it does not take long.
Five minutes to land
Before the day takes over, give yourself five minutes without a screen. Sit with a warm drink, breathe slowly, and let your body catch up with your morning. Longer exhales than inhales tell your nervous system it is safe to settle.
Five minutes to move
Somewhere in the middle of the day, move gently. A short walk, a few stretches, stepping outside for fresh air. This breaks the build-up of tension before it becomes the afternoon crash.
Five minutes to close the day
In the evening, give your mind a way to put the day down. Write three things on paper, dim the lights, and step away from work messages. This signals to your body that the alert part of the day is over.
Why small and daily beats big and rare
A weekend of rest cannot undo a week of constant pressure. But fifteen minutes, every day, slowly retrains your body to spend less time in fight or flight. Consistency is what makes it work, not intensity.
